This tall ceramic branch is cut into nine sections each representing a theme from past Design Series and displayed vertically in a red oak shelf. There is a little red bird that is free to fly around and rest on any section of the branch. A simple mechanism allows the bird to stay where she likes. I particularly like when she rests on the piece respresenting Design Series Eight which is shaped like a branch that has been carved by a woodpecker; or when the bird is looking inside the piece representing Design Series Nine which is a planter. The shelf was built by Eddie Aya, an up-and-coming woodworker in the Bay Area. —Tung Chiang, Clay Studio Director
